A fire has destroyed the kitchen of one of the pubs owned by BBC Radio Two disc jockey Chris Evans.

Diners and staff fled from the Mulberry Inn, Chiddingfold on Satursday evening. Fire crews battled for two hours to put out the blaze, which reduced the pub kitchen extension to a shell but has left the main building untouched.

"Thankfully no-one was hurt and the staff were brilliant in getting everyone out so quickly and efficiently," said Camilla Hansen, managing director and part owner of Evans Pubs.

"The fire service were outstanding in the speed in which they responded to our call and we are very grateful to them for putting out the fire so swiftly.

"All our neighbours have been fantastic in supporting us whether by bringing cups of tea or offering use of their electricity.

"The Mulberry will reopen on Thursday with a reduce food service. The Lickfold Inn, Chris Evans' s second pub in the area will take on the majority of The Mulberry's restaurant bookings."
