Pubs to cash in if McCoy wins Grand National
Licensees could win a free year's subscription to racing channel Racing UK if Tony McCoy wins the Grand National at Aintree on 4 April.
Despite McCoy's dominance over the past 13 years, he has never won the landmark race. If he wins this year, all new pubs and clubs which have signed up to Racing UK between Saturday 21 March and Friday 3 April will have their £1,000 subscription refunded.
"The John Smith's Grand National is one of the most coveted races in our sport and the one title that I am still to win," said McCoy. "Having Racing UK's pubs and clubs backing me will give me an extra boost and I hope that it will be 14th time lucky on 4 April."
Nick Mills, marketing director at Racing UK, added: "For a jockey of Tony McCoy's calibre never to have won the John Smith's Grand National comes as a great surprise to many. This initiative could be seen as a brave move on our part as McCoy is likely to be riding one of the favourites. He will be gunning to make this year his first win, but it will be great to give something back to pubs and clubs, particularly in the current economic climate, if McCoy is successful."
Racing UK will be the only channel to broadcast live coverage of the entire three-day John Smith's Grand National meeting, which begins on Thursday 2 April.
