A group of licensees have shown their creative side by designing a new ale for Leicestershire brewery Everards.

Jim Hutton, Mike Kitt-Geraghty, John Carey, Adrian Pearson, Paul Bassett, Graham McClean and James Lewitt, came up with "Finest Golden Ale" after attending an advanced beer and cellar management training course.

Jim, from the Plough in Littlethorpe near Leicester, said: "The course was fantastic and for the group to then have the opportunity to apply our new found skills and create an original product from start to finish was extremely interesting.

"We all agreed a spring themed ale was the strongest idea and likely to not only taste refreshing but also sell well at this time of year."

The group designed, brewed and named the mid-strength ale, which has an ABV of 4.5 per cent and contains Maris Otter, crystal rye malts and Goldings Hops.

It will now be on sale in pubs across the Everards' estate.

During the intensive two day Gold Level training course held at Everards' Castle Acres Brewery, the licensees also learned about the history of brewing, beer management, use of glassware and product merchandising

Mark Tetlow, trade quality manager for Everards, said: "Our brewery has a genuine passion for beer and brewing and we want as many of our licensees as possible to share that passion.

"We have created a modular package of training over three skill levels, which licensees can apply to improve the everyday running of their individual pub businesses."
