A controversial poster for a Leeds nightclub has been banned for linking alcohol with sexual activity.

The billboard poster for the Baja Beach Club advertised its Saturday Entertainment Xperience (S.E.X) night.

The poster stated "I love (using a heart symbol) S.E.X" and "Leeds' Wildest Saturday Night Party", while also advertising its drinks deals of £1 for shots of Sambuca and Tequila and £2 for a Vodka Red Bull. The poster also featured pictures of girls in skimpy clothing.

Promoters Taking Liberties, which produced the ad, said it had only run for one week and that it "did not believe advertising the price of drinks made the women appear more attractive or that it implied the price of the drinks was key to sexual success or removing inhibitions".

It argued that using attractive young models was common place in advertising.

However, the Advertising Standards Authority ruled that the poster "went beyond advertising alcohol at the event simply in the context of price or entertainment and linked it with sexual activity".

It said it must not be repeated in the same format again.

Other promotions at the Baja club include £1 shots and £1.50 bottles on a Tuesday, a "U Dirty Stopout" evening on a Wednesday, whereby if customers stay until closing time at 2.30am they receive free entry the following week and a three-for-two offer on Fridays.
