A Belgian-themed bar has become the latest addition to the north London pub circuit after Christie Finance, the specialist commercial mortgage broker, helped the new owner secure funding.
Acting on behalf of Ivy Mukasa, Christie Finance arranged funds from a leading international bank towards the acquisition of the leasehold interest of The Cricketers in Stoke Newington. The property, which was sold through Christie Finance's sister company Christie + Co, was acquired for an undisclosed sum off an asking price of £75,000.
With funding secured to acquire the pub Mukasa was able to use her own funds to completely refurbish the property, which is held on a 20-year lease with Wellington Pub Company.
Previously a tired sports bar, the business has been renamed Jan's Bar and transformed into a Belgian-themed bar with an impressive selection of the country's beers, including nine on tap.
Mukasa said: "Chris Field from Christie Finance took control of the acquisition process and raised a level of funding, which I was concerned may not be possible. He helped with negotiations and kept me informed throughout the weeks leading up to completion. This allowed me to have the confidence to get on with my plans for the pub, knowing that the financial arrangements were in safe hands.
"The Bank that was introduced by Chris had a very commercial attitude and has established a good relationship. If it wasn't for Chris, I probably would not have the bar; which has been my goal for some time."
Chris Field, consultant at Christie Finance, said: "I was delighted to help Ivy secure the funding that has enabled her to achieve her goal of opening her own themed bar. Early indications are that the transformation of the property is already proving to be a success."
