The Publican-backed John Smith's People's Darts Championship is set for a thrilling finish with the final stages being held this week.

Players representing pubs from across the country have been competing at the home of darts, the Lakeside in Frimley Green, Surrey to coincide with the BDO World Championship.

Earlier in the week the quarter finals were settled.

The North East's Tommy Dove overcame Yorkshire's Adrian Morris to set up a tie with Michael Taylor from the North West. Taylor beat Scottish hopeful Arthur Jenkins 3-0 in their tie.

The second semi-final line-up sees Darren Bennett from Central England take on Tim Jones from South Wales.

Jones won a nail-biting encounter against the South of England's Lee Williams 3-2.

In the other quarter final Bennett beat North Wales' John Roberts 3-1.

The semi-finals will be screened on BBC 2 later today with the final shown as part of coverage of the 2009 Lakeside World Championship from 4.30pm on Sunday.

In addition to the honour of being crowned the first People's Darts Champion, the players are also battling it out to win a place in two UK based BDO competitions, a week at the Torremolinos Open and £15,000 for their chosen charity.
