Stalwarts of the pub and brewing industry have been recognised for their efforts in the Queen's New Year's Honours.
Jonathan Adnams, executive chairman of Suffolk-based brewery Adnams, was awarded an OBE for his corporate social responsibility work.
The honour recognises his efforts in going green and reducing the company's carbon footprint.
Innovations at the brewhouse in Southwold include an energy efficient system which captures the steam from each brew to heat the next. This year Adnams also launched the UK's first carbon natural beer, East Green.
Meanwhile founding Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) member Michael Hardman has been presented with an MBE for his services to the brewing industry.
He told The Publican: "It was a total surprise and I am just overwhelmed by it.
"I never in my wildest dreams thought I would get something like this."
Hardman was one of four founding CAMRA members and as its first national chairman he developed the phrase 'real ale'. He also created the Good Beer Guide and the newspaper What's Brewing.
After leaving CAMRA he worked as a national journalist and in public relations in the brewing industry, including a 27 year stint at Young's.
Until recently he was the Society of Independent Brewers public relations manager and is now running his own communications and publications consultancy.
An honorary MBE was also given to Dutch national Franca Knowles, human resources director at Interpub plc. The award is in recognition of her skills training in the hospitality industry and charity work.
