The Cyclops tasting notes system for cask beer has moved online with the launch of the official Cyclops website.

www.cyclopsbeer.co.uk will go live on Friday December 5 and contains downloadable information on beers from all member breweries and will also be a focal point for all current news and trends in cask beer.

The Cyclops system breaks down the taste of beers into "eyes", "nose" and "mouth" sectors, as well as a bitterness and sweetness scale.

Licensees are able to download information and tasting notes on Cyclops beers, buyers for pub companies are able to put together beer menus for pubs more easily, and organisations like Cask Marque are able to use the site as a training tool for licensees.

Since its launch by Everards in 2006, 85 breweries have signed up to the scheme along with a number of trade organisations.

The website has been put together with the backing of the Camapign for Real Ale, Cask Marque, the Society of Independent Brewers and Independent Family Brewers of Britain.

Also working closely on the project is its founder David Bremner, formerly of Everards Brewery.

Now working for marketing company MDA, Bremner is still closely involved with the project. He told the Publican: "This is a fantastic project and a pretty noble cause. It is not about one brand or one brewery. it is about the whole sector working together to produce something that will help grow the category, for the benefit of everyone."
