The Star Inn, at Harome, North Yorkshire, has been voted the UK's best gastropub in a prestigious industry poll.

The Top 30 Gastropub Awards are organised by PubChef magazine, the MA's food magazine.

Now in its second year, the Top 30 Gastropubs are based on an industry vote of 400 top industry professionals, including gastropub operators, food critics, pub guide editors and inspectors and food writers.

PubChef editor Jo Bruce said: "This really is the industry's choice, with those in the pub food know casting their votes for the best in the industry."

Since Andrew and Jacqui Pern bought the freehold in 1996, the Michelin-starred Star Inn has become one of the UK's most legendary gastropubs. The pub serves between 800 and 1000 covers a week, with pan-roast saddle of Duncombe Park roe deer with a little venison cottage pie amongst its best-selling dishes.

The Star also offers top-notch accommodation in the form of an eight-room boutique hotel, Cross House Lodge and cottage accommodation at Black Eagle Cottages and Farmhouse.

Last year Andrew launched a range of speciality sauces and this year he published his first book, Black pudding & foie gras.

"The Star Inn, which has a Michelin star amongst its many accolades, is an amazing business which continues to evolve through the passion and energy of its owners Andrew and Jacquie Pern," said Bruce. "It's one of those iconic pubs that everyone should visit at least once."

Tom and Beth Kerridge's Hand & Flowers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, won the Chef's Choice Award and the Princess Victoria in Shepherd's Bush was awarded Newcomer of the Year.
