The Red Hart in Worcester has been crowned Marston's Pub Company Pub of the Year.

Licensees Barr and Jane Pritchard were congratulated for their "exceptional food and drink offering, outstanding customer service and all round innovative and entrepreneurial approach to its business".

Barr Pritchard said: "We were absolutely delighted when they called out our names. We have dedicated ourselves to making our pub business the perfect venue for customers to eat, drink, socialise and relax.

"We never rest on our laurels though and always look for new ways to improve. To be chosen as Pub of the Year is such a huge compliment from Marston's. We had a really special evening, topped off by winning the award, it really means a lot."

The Lifetime achievement award was presented to Kenneth Blundred, who took on his first Marston's pub in 1976.

"We have been in this industry for over 30 years and we have always worked hard at creating the best pub atmosphere for our customers. To have an official accolade from Marston's in recognition of our lifetimes work really means something."

The evening was hosted by Yorkshire swing bowler Matthew Hoggard and Radio One's Mark Chapman at the Belfry Hotel, near Birmingham.

Marston's Pub Company managing director Alistair Darby said: "We host this awards competition every year in recognition of the pubs in the estate that have really pushed the boundaries, have been innovative in what they offer their customers and have driven their businesses forward.

"It is these business men and women that set the bench mark for other pubs in the industry. It is fantastic to be able to celebrate their success with them."
