An entrepreneur has invented a machine that turns a cheap bottle of wine into a vintage-tasting delicacy in a matter of minutes. Casey Jones says the £350 gadget uses ultrasound technology to recreate the effects of decades of ageing by colliding alcohol molecules inside the bottle. The Ultrasonic Wine Ager, which looks like an ordinary ice bucket, takes 30 minutes to work and has already been given the thumbs up by an English winemaker - The Daily Telegraph

Ted Tuppen, chief executive of Enterprise Inns, has said the impact of the smoking ban, poor summer weather and pressure on consumers' wallets is weeding out less able publicans from the industry. Companies House said that the latest accounts for Gordon Ramsay Holdings, the company operating the chef's eateries and pubs, should have been filed at the end of June last year. Punch Taverns has offered to buy back from bondholders impaired debt with a par value of £93.5m, for 95p in the pound. The debt trades at between 80p and 90p. The move is designed to ease pressure on Punch Finance A, one of three Punch securitised debt agreements - The Guardian
