Pubs can expect to a seafood bonanza this September, with Seafood Week doubling in size for 2008 to become Seafood Fortnight.
Running from September 5 to 31, Seafood Fortnight will focus on the '2 a week' theme, encouragingconsumers to eat the recommended two portions of seafood a week, one of which should be rich in omega 3 oils.
Chris Stevens, commercial manager at Seafish said: "We carried out extensive industry market research. Feedback showed a desire to extend to a fortnight, to maximise the effect of promotional activities.
"We are encouraging all sectors of the seafood industry to get involved and give their backing to the event to help make it a success and secure its future as an annual event in the food and drink calendar."
Celebrity chefs supporting the even include Phil Vickery, Nick Nairn, Brian Turner, Mitch Tonks and Jo Pratt, who will be contributing new seafood recipes.
Phil Vickery said: "We are so lucky to have a coastline that supplies us with a vast array of fish and shellfish. With so many delicious species available, consumers have an abundance of tasty seafood to choose from wherever they are in the country.
"I'd love to see people trying out new recipes with some of the amazing produce Britain has to offer and Seafood Fortnight gives everyone the perfect opportunity to try some new seafood dishes."
