What do you think of the Local Government Association's calls for more detailed health information on menus?

I'm for it in fast-food joints that serve unhealthy food — people need to be told. But I think it's inappropriate in a good kitchen serving fresh food cooked by proper cooks. It would also be unworkable. How can menu information be exact in smaller venues that make fresh food daily and change menus regularly?

More legislation and more time wasted. McDonald's and other fast food companies have been moving towards it for a while — but they've got a bad product to begin with. People are generally eating in pubs once a week — there's just no need for it and it would be incredibly difficult to implement.

I think it's a good thing if it benefits the consumer — people need to know what they are eating. It will be more work for us. If it was to happen then councils would have to do a very good job setting it up. It could be complicated and I think how it was marketed and implemented would
be critical.

I personally think it's over the top, but then lots of people do watch what they eat, so maybe it's the right way to go. One thing is for sure, the councils must provide small businesses, which as we all know are already struggling, with significant support.
