Join in with the second Proud of Pubs Week
The countdown to the second Proud of Pubs Week is on!
Last July saw more than 100 MPs visit pubs during Proud of Pubs Week, just after the launch of England's smoking ban.
This year we want more readers than ever to meet their MPs during the week and highlight the positive side of the pub industry.
Over the course of the week, which has been set for July 13 to 20, we will also be urging licensees to:
• Meet with local journalists to help raise the profile of their pub
• Introduce energy-saving measures
• Try something they have never done before by hosting a Proud of Pubs Night in your pub.
Licensees are also being urged to show their pride in their staff by entering their bar teams in The Publican's ongoing Proud of your People awards.
Free Proud of Pubs window and door stickers are available to pubs now, while more material will be available ahead of the week.
Proud of Pubs Week is already winning the support of high-profile MPs. Lib Dem MP and member of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group Greg Mulholland, who last week issued a call to the industry to come together in the face of the current pressure on the industry, said: "This year's Proud of Pubs Week could not have come at a more crucial time and is more important than ever.
"I am calling on everyone who is proud of being British to mark the week by going and supporting their local pubs. Pubs are a part of who we are as a nation and part of our cultural heritage.
"I am proud to be British and I am very proud of our pubs and I want to hear more and more people saying that up and down the country."
John Grogan, Labour MP and chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, said: "The Publican's Proud of Pubs Week should be as much a part of the British summer as Wimbledon, the Lords test and Glastonbury!
"This year above all I feel sure that publicans and their customers will want to rally to the cause and take part in the many events that will be happening up and down the country."
