My New Pub
The Golden Boar Inn
Freckenham, Suffolk
Agent: Christie+Co
The Golden Boar is set to be a true family business under new owner Vaggy Spyrou. Front of house is being overseen by his wife and daughter and the kitchen is under future
son-in-law Sergio Neale.
The Boar is Spyrou's first pub. He worked as an operations manager for a local authority before making the move to the pub trade. He said: "I've always wanted my own pub. My father was a chef and I worked in pubs during my younger years."
The Grade II-listed, 16th-century pub offers upmarket food, ales, and accommodation. The family took over as tenants when Enterprise acquired the site and formally became the new lessees at the end of February.
Head chef Neale worked in the West End as second in command at the Axis Restaurant & Bar. Spyrou said that everything was home-made on the modern European menu.
The most popular dish is fillet steak at £22, but hay-baked lamb and pork belly are popular at the moment too, as is roast Chateaubriand and slow roast leg of lamb, both
served on boards for two to share.
Customer feedback has so far been very positive — especially from bigger groups.
The Golden Boar Inn was sold for an undisclosed figure after Christie+Co sought an asking price of £49,000 for the new, 25-year lease, with rent commencing at £67,450 per annum.
