It's time to book a place on the Licensed Trade Charity's Annual Golf Tournament in aid of those in the trade who need support

Now that spring has finally sprung, the Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) is calling on all golf enthusiasts to dust off their clubs for the charity's 2008 Annual Golf Tournament, which is supported by the Morning Advertiser.

Last year, the tournament raised over £7,000 and this year the LTC is aiming to beat that figure in order to assist those who call on the charity in times of need. With the additional help of the Morning Advertiser, the benevolent fund is confident of a successful tournament.

Ray Batty, trustee and organiser of the event, says: "The golf tournament is a firm favourite with many licensees and their customers across the country — it's great value and each regional event organises a great day. You don't have to work in the trade to take part. So get all your regulars, bar staff, and colleagues together and enter one of the regional heats."

The tournament will tee off with eight regional heats, with the first heat to be held on 10 June at Cobble Hall Golf Club in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The regional heats will be held at the locations listed at the bottom of this page. To take part, please contact the relevant organisers.

Golf enthusiasts can enter as many regional heats as they wish to, as individuals or in a team of four. The final will take place on 9 October, at Longcliffe Golf Course in Loughborough, Leicestershire. Prizes will be presented to winners of the regional heats, and the winning team from each region as well as first, second and third place will win a free place in the final, along with dinner afterwards to celebrate the day.

Betty Corder, organiser from the Essex region, says: "The people in the Essex region love the golf tournament. This year, even though our regional final is in June, we already have 30 people signed up. We are in the unique position of my customers coming up to me and asking me when the event is, rather than promoting it and that is fantastic."

Ray Batty says: "Last year's event was a great success. Everyone always enjoys it. This year we are hoping to improve on the figure raised at last year's event, so we are asking all golf lovers to get involved in raising money for a very worthy cause."
