Coors Brewers has a new chief executive - former Bass marketing director Mark Hunter. He replaces Peter Swinburn, who has been appointed as the chief executive of the Coors Brewing Company, Molson Coors' US business. Hunter joined Bass Brewers in 1989 and held a number of positions before joining the board in 1997 as marketing director.
Smoke rebel Tony Blows is being prosecuted for flouting the ban at his Dog Inn pub in Ewyas Harold, Herefordshire. Blows will appear before magistrates on 26 October for allegedly smoking himself and allowing others to on 4 August. He is also accused of failing to stop people smoking in the pub on 23 July. Blows claims he has "done his bit" by informing all his customers of the law but said he can't risk the safety of his staff by making them enforce it.
Culture Secretary James Purnell is to speak at the Business in Sport & Leisure Annual Conference next month. Britvic has announced a new name and look for its Pressed and Squeezed range to be more memorable to pub-goers. Launching this month, Britvic OJ (squeezed) and AJ (pressed) are available in 275ml glass bottles in the on-trade. Marketing material contains the line "all you have to do is say OJ/AJ". Each bottles of OJ contains the juice of three oranges, while each AJ has the juice of two apples.
Marston's Pub Company has created two new roles in its marketing and development team. Peter Crabbe, who has held senior roles with Tom Cobleigh Taverns and Whitbread has been appointed head of retail. Dave Percival, formerly of Marston's Beer Company, is the new category manager for drinks and machines.
