A Welsh banger has won the much-coveted title of Best Pub Sausage in the annual Foodservice Pork Sausage of the Year Competition.
The Welsh Sausage Company picked up the accolade for its Pork, Leek & Caerphilly Cheese sausage. The company's customers include Welsh brewer and pub operator SA Brain.
The Best Pub Sausage award, run in conjunction with The Publican, is one of five categories in the awards, which are run by the British Pig Executive.
The winners were chosen at a series of tasting sessions, with judges including John Porter, Pub Food Editor. Second prize in the Pub Sausage category went to Hinchliffes Farm Shop with its Pork, Mature Cheddar and Chive sausage, with third place going to the Pork and Leek from H Hofmann & Sons.
Christine Gethin, managing director, collected the award at a special ceremony held at Butchers Hall in the City of London.
There was consolation for the second placed pub sausage when those attending the ceremony, which included the winners and runners-up from all five categories, voted the Hinchliffes Pork, Mature Cheddar and Chive creation the best sausage overall on the day.
