Rock star superchef and Hell's Kitchen star Marco Pierre White is a man who takes his food seriously.
However, when he recently spent an evening at the restaurant of a West Country pub he showed himself to be a man of the people with his request for HP sauce to accompany his sirloin steak and chips.
White was also known for his volatility in the kitchen (after all, he did make Gordon Ramsay cry), though when he turned up at Woods, an award-winning bar and restaurant in the Exmoor town of Dulverton, he was as nice as pie.
"I was pleased to have someone like him taking the effort to travel to the pub," says Woods' landlord Paddy Groves, who has been lionised in the MA by wine writer Fiona Sims.
"He wasn't staying in the town, so it was nice that he found his way here and it was good to see him at ease. He was utterly well-mannered."
