Craft Guild of Chefs invites suppliers to put their goods to the test
The Craft Guild of Chefs is inviting pub food suppliers to put their goods to the test and earn the right to use one of its coveted logos.
To qualify, companies have to be registered as a Craft Guild of Chefs Business Partner, of which there are currently 70, and submit their product for testing by a panel of three senior member chefs over a minimum of two weeks.
Tailored to attract specific markets like pubs and/or sandwich bars, the test allocates points for quality, taste, presentation and performance in the kitchen. An extensive questionnaire is also compiled by the manufacturer and completed by the testing chefs.
Chairman Nick Vadis said the scheme was proving an invaluable benchmarking tool. He said: "This is a fantastic way for Business partners to maximise their links with the Guild and increase their sales due to the prestige associated with the Guild name."
"We would encourage any manufacturer who desires such a seal of approval to become a partner and caterers to keep an eye out for the instantly recognisable logo as a sure fire indicator of first class quality."
First to submit products and one of the highest-scoring so far was Essential Cuisine with its Premier Jus range.
Submitting a product or line of similar products for testing incurs a one-off fee of £600 and, following the testing stage, an annual usage fee of £1000. This allows use of the endorsement logo on packaging and promotional literature.
