Calco Midlands has acquired Bold Pub Company, the St Helens-based pub group, that operates a 29-strong managed estate in the North of England and North Wales for an undisclosed sum, M&C Report has learnt.

Calco, a little-known pub group, which operates around 100 sites across the UK, has bought Bold's 29 managed community pubs and a non-trading development unit in Liverpool that has planning and licensing consents.

Bold, which is financed by Close Ventures, the venture capital arm of Close Brothers, was founded in 2004 by Ken Buckley and Phil Dearden.

The majority of its estate trades under the Value Inns brand.

Noel Moffitt, director of Christie & Co, said: "We were instructed by the owners of the Bold Pub Company to sell the business, to enable them to concentrate on the development of other opportunities.

"We identified Calco, who own and operate a substantial portfolio of licensed properties, as a suitable purchaser."

Calco previously acquired Northumbria Taverns, which operated 33 pubs and clubs, for an undisclosed sum in March 2006.
