Garry & Carol Stickland,
The Three Horseshoes,
Letchmore Heath, Hertfordshire
Agent: Christie+Co
Garry Dunks and Carol Stickland have just taken on the Three Horseshoes in Letchmore Heath. The pub dates back to 1586 and is popular with film crews and actors because of its
proximity to Borehamwood and Elstree studios.
Dunks has worked on and off in the trade for 30 years and used to be a tenant for Fullers at the Swan in St Albans in Hertfordshire. Punch is investing £70,000 to bring the pub up to scratch and a smoking area is planned in preparation for the ban. Dunk intends to retain the character of the pub but does plan to put his own mark on it with some of his boxing memorabilia.
Dunks said: "It is hard work at the moment because our chef is away, but we're really enjoying ourselves. This is a lovely old pub, doing a good trade - we did 100 lunches the other week. Little Britain was filmed here recently and the pub has also been used as a film-set for The Avengers and EastEnders. My partner Carol and I are cleaning up at the
moment - we just want to get everything looking perfect."
The food offering at the pub is mid-priced, with dishes
ranging from £7 to £11.
Dunks said: "The most important thing that we're doing here is improving the pub's food offering - we have a very strong chef who's been here for 10 years and we want to make sure that we supply him with better ingredients to work with. Everything we do is home-made and we focus on serving
traditional pub grub, such as pies and steaks."
