Brighton's only vegetarian pub, the Barracuda Group owned George, has launched its first complete vegetarian wine list.
The list coincides with the pub's new food menu which was launched during National Vegetarian week (21-25 May). Each wine is produced without the use of any animal by-products which are often used as fining agents in the filtration and clarifying process. The new wine list includes six white, three rosé, five red and two sparkling wines, including Bonterra - a wine that is both organic and vegetarian.
The vegetarian wine list and food menu were launched under the steer of new manager John Morrice.
He said: "We've spent the last couple of months researching what customers want from the George. It has always held a strong position within Brighton's vegetarian and also non-vegetarian community, but we felt that it needed a menu revamp - which also extended to the wine list.
"We decided to introduce a full vegetarian wine list so we could offer our customers the complete package - vegetarian wines are still not commonplace in most bars, so we wanted to be one of the first to bring this unique offer to the area."
The new food menu includes tapas dishes such as falafel, olives, vegetable kebabs and bruschetta, a range of new salads, breakfast from 10am and a new children's menu.
The core Barracuda Group estate (201 pubs) has also launched new wine lists for each of its five retail brands with the focus on more rosé and sparkling varieties.
The vegetarian wine list carries the Vegetarian Society Seedling Symbol trademark. This means that any products carrying the Trademark must meet The Vegetarian Society's strict criteria, giving the customer confidence that any products displaying the symbol are a 100% vegetarian.
