A ladies' darts team from another pub have asked if they can move here. I have done nothing to solicit this and have not sought to encourage it.
I have to say that I am a little apprehensive. And I told them so.
Their claim is that the pub they currently play for is very busy during football matches and that it's difficult to play there. I am not sure. If there is one thing these blogs have taught me it is that each pub is different and a perspective from one point may be very different from that of another. I am a little wary of being used for some political purpose. If these ladies want to get one over on their landlord I hope it isn't by using me.
But the strange thing is that I am a little surprised these ladies wish to come here at all. Although we have inherited a ladies' team and a men's team I don't really figure this is an obvious choice for new darts teams. We've no music and we don't sell alcopops. I see us mainly catering for middle aged, middle class men. This development seems odd.
But I am also conscious that when we provide a facility it is of the highest quality. Our dartboard is new, the throw is straight and true, the lighting is shadowless and bright. I don't think there are many throws better. Even details like the quality of our playing cards and the standard of our bar billiards table (even though some idiot has scratched "MUFC sucks" onto it) are of the highest order.
I hope that the motives of our new darts team, for I think the deal is done, are because our facility is good enough to warrant the change and because they like our venue. But I am still wary I might be being played for an idiot. I hope not.
