Two pubs 'tick boxes for ban'
Two well-established pubs have come on to the market in Derby. The Exeter Arms and the Traveller's Rest are both on the market for the first time in 15 years. Both sets of licensees are retiring from the trade.
The Exeter Arms is currently held on a Marston's lease and is being sold by Ann Oldfield and Pete Wild. It is on the market at £72,500.
"The Exeter Arms ticks all the boxes as far as a traditional local pub is concerned," said Chris Platts, of Brownill Vickers & Platts, which is selling both the properties.
The Traveller's Rest is on the market at £139,500 for the Punch Taverns lease. The sellers are local couple Alan and Gillian Faulkner.
Platts said: "With the pending smoking ban coming into force in England in a couple of months' time, there are quite a lot of leasehold pubs coming to the market.
"I am very pleased to offer both the Exeter Arms and the Travellers Rest for sale, as they have excellent external areas which will convert quite readily to comply with the new regulations.
"Some pubs which are completely landlocked may well struggle when the ban starts in July, but I don't see this as a problem for the Exeter Arms or the Travellers Rest.
The Travellers Rest has a superb rear patio area which has a lovely old tree; with the clever use of heated parasols this could be a really nice external area."
