Carlsberg has awarded its UK draymen a ten per cent pay rise.

The deal was announced today by the Transport & General Workers Union, which acted for the 50 staff in the negotiations.

The new pay rate will see the brewer's draymen paid just over £24,000 per annum, including a current £1,250 bonus and pay will rise next year by 0.4 per cent above inflation next year.

Joe Clarke, T&G regional industrial organiser led the negotiations and said the deal had been accepted by a majority of more than 60 per cent.

He said another key part of the deal was an agreement to put in place a new starter rate for the first six months of employment which was designed to transfer current temporary and agency staff onto the permanent pay roll.

The deal guarantees 80 per cent of the full pay, then 100 per cent after the six months.

"This is a good deal for our members which gives stability for the next two years. It is reflected in the 60 per cent plus vote for the offer," said Clarke.

"The inclusion of the new starter rate gives a welcome opportunity for current agency and temporary staff at Carlsberg to gain full time employment."
