England's most-capped player Peter Shilton helped to
celebrate the new Wembley Stadium on behalf of founding partner Carlsberg by pouring the official first pint of the beer at the iconic venue in preparation for the local residents' day this Saturday.
The legendary England keeper was on hand to make sure the first pint of Carlsberg was poured to perfection.
Shilton said: "I was delighted to be the first person to pour the first pint - this delicious beer tastes even better when you drink it in the fantastic surroundings of this amazing stadium."
Carlsberg has installed a special Glycol cooling system and quick-pour mechanism to ensure smooth delivery of the England football team's official beer at all the stadium's service points.
Each point will be able to pour a perfect pint in less than 20 seconds and serve it at a refreshingly-cool 3°C.
Carlsberg UK head of sponsorship and media Gareth Roberts said: "We knew we needed a safe pair of hands to take care of pouring the first pint. After all, in terms of English football, there has never been a safer pair of hands than Peter Shilton's."
Wembley Stadium - Did you know?
l Under the new Wembley Stadium roof is four million cubic metres of space - the equivalent of 7 billion pints of Carlsberg, or enough Carlsberg to fill up to 160 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
l The new stadium has 90,000 seats. Placed end to end, they could stretch from Wembley to the Carlsberg brewery in Northampton.
l The stadium has the facilities to pour 8,256 pints every minute - so everyone in the stadium will be able to buy a fresh pint of Carlsberg at half-time.
l Its arch spans 315m and is 7m in diameter and is made of enough metal to make
more than 9,000 cans of Carlsberg.
l The new stadium has 74 food and drink
outlets and 688 service points.
l Each main service-point can dispense four pints of beer in less than 20 seconds at a constant temperature of 3°C.
