Despite being about as far as its possible to get from the sea, the Running Horse Inn, Bewdley won the Chef & Brewer Seafood Pub of the Year title for a fifth consecutive year.

The pub has retained its crown in a competition open to the Spirit Group's 133 Chef and Brewer pubs and judged by industry body Seafish.

The pub is managed by Christine and Richard Probert. Christine, a trained chef with 31 years experience in the licensed trade, said: "It was very much a joint effort and I worked with head chef Neil Ward, second chef Matthew Gardner and the team for this success.

"We are proud of our reputation for seafood and we put a lot of thought into providing a menu that sees customers return time and again."

Dishes served up have included monkfish and king prawn thermidor, while fresh lobster is particularly popular. The next seafood week starts in the run-up to Easter on Monday 2 April.

Christine said: "My first pub was by the sea at Hayling Island and we used to specialise in fish. I realised there was an opportunity to provide tasty, interesting and good value seafood in the pubs I have gone on to manage. It's something I am passionate about and I believe by offering something different it helps us thrive in a competitive market."
