After inflicting Australia's first home one-day series defeat for 14 years, the England team is in good spirits and Marston's hopes drinkers will be similarly inspired.

Because for pub drinkers who love their cricket, Marston's campaign includes the chance to become a selector and pick the 'Most Uncompromising England XI of all time' from a list of 30 "uncompromising" English players from past and present.

The person that selects the closest team to the one picked by Marston's expert panel of cricket journalists, will win a VIP day out to The Brit Oval to watch the last test match of this summer against India. More cricket and beer prizes are available for the nearest runners-up.

Drinkers will be able to enter either by filling in a leaflet available in outlets or by visiting www.marstonscricketclub.co.uk and filling out a form online.

The players will also be featured in a commemorative set of 'Top Stumps' game cards. The deck of cards will be free to pub-goers who buy six pints of Marston's Pedigree or Marston's Smooth.

Justin Way, marketing manager for Marston's, said: "At Marston's, we don't compromise when it comes to producing the finest beers in England and English cricket has a long line of uncompromising characters, so there's a natural connection. Discussing stories about players and selecting teams always provokes debate and where better to have that debate than over a pint in a great pub with friends. We think ale drinkers will enjoy taking part.

Joe Bruce, head of sponsorship for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said: "This new campaign shows how seriously Marston's has taken its role as an official partner of the ECB. It is yet another great example of how they have embraced their association of the game and moulded their marketing mix accordingly."
