Andrew and Gamze Marshall have taken on their first pub. Andrew had previously worked behind the bar in another pub in the village and has years of catering experience.
"I managed a Sergeant's mess for 10 years, so I'm not new to catering, but this is my first time as a licensee," said Andrew.
The couple have two young children and looked at
numerous pubs before finding the Railway.
"We looked as far afield as Portsmouth and then someone said to us: 'Did you know the local pub is on the market'?"
Andrew is originally from the area and jumped at the chance to own his own local.
The pub, located in a densely-populated area, has a main bar, lounge and snug. It currently has 100% wet sales, but the Marshalls plan to introduce food.
"We've started doing rolls at lunchtime to satisfy the trade and we plan to get the food operation up and running in December."
The pub has a turnover of approximately £230,000 per
annum and Andrew estimates that this will increase when food is introduced.
"We're hoping to meet with our landlord Wolverhampton and Dudley to discuss plans to develop the outside of the pub in time for the smoke ban."
The leasehold of the Railway Inn was bought off an asking price of £85,000 and the pub is tied for all drinks.
