A London music pub which counts rock stars Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart amongst its regulars will close after owner Mitchells & Butlers sold it to housing developers.

In a move which has outraged its many fans, Soho's legendary Intrepid Fox in Wardour Street ceases trading on 11th September. It's part of Soho and a world-famous music institutionPat Begent, Manager

Manager Pat Begent and nine staff were given less than a month's notice.

TravestyHaving run the pub for 15 years, Begent described the closure as a "travesty a hammer blow to the alternative music scene".

A campaign to save the Fox has been launched and a website set up to lobby MPs and Westminster council.

World famousThe pub has become a dedicated heavy-rock and goth music venue but in its heyday it was London's rock élite's drinking headquarters.

"It's part of Soho and a world-famous music institution but there's little hope of staying open," Begent said.

The Intrepid Fox is one of 21 London pubs sold by M&B to investment companies and pub operators.
