Door workers in pubs will be able to get a masterclass on resolving conflict at what organisers claim will be the first ever national conference dedicated to security professionals.

The ConflictPro Conference event, to be held at Wokefield Park in Reading, Berkshire on September 28, also gives licensees the chance to nominate the outstanding security champion in their pub in a new awards scheme.

Speakers at the conference will include Mark Seymour, operational risk director at Spirit Group, who will present a masterclass on managing high-risk licensed venues, and Cathie Smith, director of qualifications at BIIAB, the wholly-owned awarding body of the BII.

The Conflict Professional Awards have been set up to recognise the best people handling security in business, with licensed retail one of five different sectors to be picked out, with an award sponsored by the BII and supported by The Publican. Entrants could include door workers or bar staff who are skilled in dealing with difficult situations. Entries must be in by August 11.

Individuals nominated will have to show how they have helped reduce conflict and violence and created a safer workplace for staff and customers.
