Buckinghamshire licensees Kay and Brendan Keane are the first to win a £1,000 in the Morning Advertiser and S&N UK Heart of the Community Pub Honours £25,000 good cause giveaway.
Throughout the year, we'll be awarding an honour to one pub a month in recognition for their contribution to local life and donating £1,000 to the charity of their choice.
All the monthly winners will also win a VIP trip for two to one of the John Smith's racing days, taking place throughout the year.
At the end of 2006, the 10 monthly winners will go through to a final round where a further £15,000 donation will be up for grabs.
Raised £27,000The Keanes, from the Black Horse in Fulmer, scooped our March honour for their on-going fund-rasing efforts, which pulled in £27,000 last year for a raft of charities.
The Greene King lessees nominated the William's Fund to receive the donation. The charity, which raises money for research into children's cancers, was set up in memory of William Dodd who was only two when he was diagnosed.
Kay said she was delighted to win the award, and added that fundraising had given the pub an extra dimension.
"It's a lot of had work, but you get a big reward, especially when the letters thanking us for a great night come in."
Your chance to winTo be in with a chance of winning, drop us a line explaining how your pub has helped raise money to support the community this year.
Judges will be looking for pubs showing a genuine commitment to fundraising - on a local or national level - in the past 12 months.
Winners won't necessarily be chosen on the basis of how much money they have raised - demonstrating an innovative approach to fundraising, a real sense of community and the hard work behind your efforts will be considered just as worthy.
To be in with a chance of winning our next monthly prize in April, please send your name, address and telephone number, along with an explanation of 500 words or less, outlining your efforts to help the community by April 20 to:
