SIXTY per cent of motorists are in favour of a ban on smoking while driving - according to a survey published in today's Mirror.
The survey carried out by car sales paper Auto Trader found some smokers admitted the habit makes them a danger on the road.
A third of smokers agreed that lighting up or putting out distracted them while at the wheel and while about half of smokers believed it made them better drivers, 15 per cent admitted having a cig made them a danger on the road. Your comments

"Is there no end to this social engineering. And how many people responded to this survey. Probably the members of ASH who would be the only ones who would benefit by this sort of propoganda."

"Banning smoking in our own vehicles is ludicrous. For years people have smoked whilst driving and for many this helps concentration, especially when a little tired as we were the other day when arriving home on a late flight and then had to drive home. Smoking also helps concentration when on a long, monotonous motorway drive.
"We are already starting to make plans to move abroad as we are fed up with this dictatorial state. A comment made by someone else on this site said about supporting the war in Iraq as it removed a vicious dictator. Perhaps our government was more concerned about the competition!
"Regarding the loss of revenue if so many people give up as the antis are predicting, I have for many years wondered when the government will start taxing the air that we breath, you may have to hold your breath, it isn't as daft as it sounds when you look at their track record!"Mandy VincentVia email 17/03/2006"Strange I do not remember any poll from auto trader. But I do get lots of other info from them, or should I say I did because I will make sure I do not recieve anything else from them when I have finished writing this!!!! I have been driving ,smoking in my car for over 20years and touch wood I have never been involved in an accident with anyone, ( only a concrete post in underground car park) children in cars are more distracting. Smoking in my car on my own stops me getting ROAD RAGE!!!

By a human man or woman knocking on my home telling me I cant smoke. No wonder English people are leaving this country to live the rest of their days abroad.....
