Have you got behind The Publican's Proud of Pubs campaign yet? Now's your chance.

Almost six months in, and The Publican's Proud of Pubs campaign is continuing to go from strength to strength. The Marconi Club in Chelsmford, Essex, was the latest stopping point on the campaign trail last week at the launch of a new scheme for licensees. Essex Police's wholesale support for Proud of Pubs has seen it form an integral part of the scheme, set up to recognise the most responsible pubs in the county.

All pubs and bars in the county are now being asked to sign up to the Proud of Pubs Charter as part of the project.

It's just the latest example of how Proud of Pubs has caught the imagination as we seek to highlight best practice within the trade and celebrate pubs with the nation. The campaign remains as relevant as it did when it was launched last September, ahead of the November 24 switch to the new licensing laws.

Messages of support and signatories to the Proud of Pubs Charter continue to come in daily. And the messages are being promoted to pub customers via campaign badges and beermats, including the one million Campaign for Real Ale beermats that were sent out to coincide with National Pubs Week.

From next month the message is also being promoted up and down the country on snacks packaging produced by campaign supporter Sun Valley Snacks.

There are plenty more exciting Proud of Pubs initiatives in the pipeline. Watch this space for details...and in the meantime, get behind the campaign any way you can. Together we are stronger!

How you can get involved...

  • Sign the Proud of Pubs Charter
  • We want as many licensees as possible to show their commitment to trading responsibly by signing our charter - available to download here. All licensees are listed on thePublican.com - and every month one person signing and displaying the charter will receive a month's supply of snacks from Sun Valley Peanuts
  • Nominate your best individual or team for the Proud of Your Staff initiative
  • Pick out a member of staff or your entire team, tell us why you are proud of them and send us their photographs. Look out for details of a new extension to this feature soon
  • Put forward your own pub or a fellow licensee for our Cask Ale Champions or Pub to be Proud Of profiles
  • Tell us what you do well at your pub - and what makes you different - and a Publican journalist could come knocking on your door
  • Encourage your customers to enter the What I Love About Pubs section
  • Get your customers to write in and tell us what they like about your pub in 200 words - and we'll feature the pub in The Publican
  • Grab some free Proud of Pubs badges and beermats while you can!
  • We've got more free campaign material to give away - get in touch and we'll send you some, while stocks last.

Do you have any ideas for furthering the Proud of Pubs campaign and showing the nation how proud of pubs you are? Tell us!

Why we're supporting Proud of Pubs

  • Christian Farmer, the Yew Tree Inn in Dursley, Gloucestershire: "It is excellent that pubs from different trading backgrounds are joining up so that hopefully we, as one of the country's biggest employers and tax providers, can speak with one voice."
  • Keith Mcintosh, the Prince Albert in Peckham, South London: "As a trade we need to stick together and show the general public that it is alcohol-selling outlets other than pubs which produce most of the alcohol-related trouble that occurs."
  • Rod Cambourne of the Bell Inn at Leigh on Mendip, near Bath, Somerset: "The charter is a good idea which should bring a true positive vision of our pubs to balance the press view."
  • Ann Marriner of the Mahratta & Galley Bar in Stirlingshire, Scotland: "Public houses generally need a higher profile in order to exist profitably. Hopefully this campaign will provide us with guidance and also act as a sounding-board to enhance other areas of improvement."
  • David Stocken of the Dolphin, in Worthing, West Sussex:(pictured) "Let's start hyping up the good points of decent well-run local pubs such as mine! We have had so much negative abuse from idiots in the media, it is time to turn the trade back around to how it was. Millions of pounds have been spent over the last couple of decades bashing pubs, now we need to lick our wounds and make a comeback!"
  • Tim Crompton, of the George Hotel in Lydd, Kent: "We know that we are responsible but it's good to let others know."
