BAR TALK
What do you think of England's chances in the World Cup?
Mike Mercer
The Albion
Chester
'I don't know. I think we'll do pretty well. They've been performing well lately, but I wouldn't put money on them. Having said that, I wouldn't put money on any of them. I think we'll get to the semi-finals at least. We'll have it on in the pub but not on any big screens - most of our customers are more mature so won't want big screens and all-day sessions, but they will be interested in the game.'
Graham Rowson
Plungington Tavern
Preston
Lancashire
'What do you mean? We've already won! You might as well engrave the trophy now. The draw was brilliant. I can't wait - trade will be up. You've got to be confident about these things. I might try and get a ticket to a game or two - depending on what my wife says. I'm really excited.'
Nigel Williams
Spread Eagle
Sawley
Lancashire
'England's chances? Slim to none. I think we'll get through the qualifying round but if we meet Brazil or France - we'll be out. They are strong teams. We had it on for staff in the pub last time and the mood was awful when we were knocked out. Now, we're mainly food-led so we won't be showing the matches.'
David Watts
King's Head
Letheringsett
Norfolk
'I think they'll make the semi-finals and the finals if things go their way. By that stage it's down to who plays well on the day. We'll have the games on in the pub - we'll get more TVs, but no big screen because there's a sport-orientated bar down the road. Last time we did face painting and a geography quiz for the kids and had an Ann Summers party for the women - but more of them ended up watching the football.'
