The William IV, which has featured in an episode of the Inspector Wexford television series, has just come on to the market in Romsey, Hampshire.
'The historic and affluent market town of Romsey in the Test Valley provided the setting for the fictional town of Kingsmarkham, the home of Inspector Reg Wexford, so its streets and landmarks have become well known to a worldwide audience,' said Vicky Moody of Christie & Co's Windsor office.
The pub, an attractive red-brick property dating from the early 20th-century, is located on Latimer Street in the town centre.
It is within easy walking distance of the town's main landmarks, such as the 10th-century Romsey Abbey, Broadlands (the country home of the late Lord Mountbatten of Burma) and the ancient King John's House.
Moody added: 'Proprietors Rick and Mandy Steele have owned the William IV for two years, during which they have redecorated the premises and improved the facilities for customers. These include the introduction of Sky Sports and installation of air-conditioning.
'The pub is very well supported by local people and plays host to two football teams, a darts team and a bridge team.
'The owners now intend to retire from the licensed trade with a view to moving abroad.'
The property has a main bar, a function room for 100 people, a courtyard and gardens plus three-bedroom owner's accommodation.
'The William IV is a character property with a good trading location in the middle of a most attractive market town,' said Moody.
'It should appeal to a range of potential buyers from experienced licensed operators to those wishing to enter the trade.'
Christie & Co is seeking £85,000 for the remaining eight years of the current lease.
