Do you support the MA's Heart of the Community campaign?

I think it's a very admirable cause. It's about time someone stood up for the pub but we need to make sure there is national coverage. It is all very well the likes of Giles Thorley and Ted Tuppen supporting it but they now need to put their money where their mouth is. They should capitalise on this campaign by planning an advertising campaign for the British pub and its values.

It's certainly got to help. Any positive stuff about pubs is good and the MA has done well in standing up to the press because we are getting all that rubbish thrown at us. The Licensing Act is the biggest change in the industry in 30 years but I feel trade bodies have been complacent and are not prepared to speak in the same language as politicians. The Daily Mail stuff has hurt the image of the pub.

I like the fact the MA's highlighting the positive issues. Most pubs are at the heart of the community. They have to act as an agony aunt and are a good source of employment for students struggling to pay tuition fees and mums and dads with kids who need to work as and when. People forget that. We host church and home education groups among others. The more you do, the more you benefit.

I fully support the campaign. The guys have put the poster and form up downstairs and people have started to sign. The pub is such a traditional part of the community and that is its strength. Here, we are on an estate and because of that are a very important part of the estate and the community. I hope to get more signatures on the poster this week.
