Greene King Pub Company has launched a tapas offering as part of a new 'knife and fork' menu at 44 of its 160 Town Local pub sites.
The tapas section, which is being offered as a starter, lunch option or as side dishes, includes large olives, lamb meatballs, tiger prawns, whitebait, chicken goujons and toasted bruschetta with goats cheese. There are healthy choices and treats, which will change regularly. The dishes start at £1.45 each with an offer of three for £3.95.
Adam Collett, marketing director at Greene King Pub Company, said: 'We've seen a growth in lunchtime 'occasion' dining', particularly within the Town Local division. This menu is designed to offer something a little different to this section of the market, providing more choice for office workers and younger customers.'
Collett believes that it's important to continue updating the menu with new and creative ideas, and introducing tapas is a great example of this.
Inspiration for the launch of the tapas range came after members of the food development team holidayed in Spain, and spotted the potential to introduce the idea to the town centre market.
Traditional favourites have also been retained on the new menu. Dishes include filled potato wedges, wraps, baguettes, and a variety of main courses from steak and ale pie to chicken and bacon melt, flakes of tuna and melted mature Cheddar cheese as well as a choice of burgers.
