Pubs are being challenged to take part in the 'Bangers and Mash Clash' in the run up to this year's British Sausage Week, which runs from October 24 to 30. The British Pig Executive (BPEX) competition will see a nationwide search for the best twist on the pub food classic, followed by a cook-off in eight regions to find the country's favourite bangers and mash recipe.

BPEX is looking for pub chefs who have developed their own recipes to tantalise their customers' taste buds.

Finalists will be invited to one of the regional cook-off finals which will be taking place throughout Sausage Week in London, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bristol or Cardiff.

British Sausage Week mascot Mr Sausage and celebrity sausage lover Christine Hamilton will be touring the country during the Week handing out 'Clash Awards' to the winner at each of the cook-off finals. Each regional winner will also receive a cheque for £150 to donate to a local children's charity of their choice.

British Pig Executive (BPEX) foodservice trade manager, Tony Goodger, said: "We know for a fact that there are numerous pubs around the country whose reputation is built on the quality of their sausage and mash dishes."
