& Hounds

A couple from Berkshire have taken on a popular freehold in Hempstead near Gresham's School, founded in 1555 by former Lord Mayor of London Sir William Gresham.

The Hare & Hounds, in a rural setting, two-and-a-half miles from Holt, was bought by Terence and Valerie Purkiss.

'The property is believed to have been built in the mid-1600s in the traditional local manner of brick and flint. It has a warm, inviting atmosphere throughout, said a spokesman from UK Pub Sales in Norwich.

'The main bar has a log fire, the restaurant has an impressive fireplace and wood-burning stove with the additional option of a more intimate dining exper-ience in the snug restaurant.

'The business has built up an excellent level of trade in the region of £300,000 ex VAT and draws custom from a wide area.

There are three en-suite bedrooms and a lounge ideal for bed and breakfast. In the grounds there is a separate self-contained barn conversion with a bedroom, lounge, kitchen and bathroom.

Various lawn garden areas include a patio, pond, children's play area and car park for 25.

The Hare & Hounds' freehold was sold for an undisclosed sum off the asking price of £459,000.
