A memorial service for Heather Newton, a long-time supporter of trade charities, will take place on 1 July at Lady St Mary's Church, Wareham, Dorset, at 2.30pm. Refreshments will be provided at the Conservative Club in Wareham. Heather Newton died on 15 June. She spent 23 years as welfare officer for the Licensed Victuallers National Homes. No flowers, but donations to the Macmillan Foundation or Cancer Research UK.

Owners raffle off Cross Keys pub

Birmingham freehold pub the Cross Keys pub in Spring Hill, is being raffled off by its owners. Derek and Teresa Organ are selling tickets for £25 to raise cash to emigrate to Canada. They had tried to sell the pub, worth £250,000, last year. For tickets ring Derek on 07970 607 492.

Welsh plea prompts application review

Licensing minister James Purnell is to review whether licensing application forms should be available in Welsh. Plaid Cymru's parliamentary culture spokesman Hywel Williams said the failure to provide forms in Welsh could breach the Welsh L anguage Act 1993. The act states that Welsh speakers should be treated on a par with English.

Tribute sponsors Cornish kite surfer

West Country brewer St Austell is sponsoring Cornish kite surfer Dreva Wharry to promote its Tribute beer. Tribute branding will be included on the former Gladiator champion's board and clothing as she surfs from the Isles of Scilly to Newquay. Stars to help pubco raise charity cash

Pubco Greencliffe Taverns will host a version of Question of Sport in aid of the Dickie Bird Foundation, which helps disadvantaged children take part in sport. A cricket team featuring Dickie Bird, Chris Silverwood and Mark Greatbatch will take on a rugby league side including Roger Millward, Garry Schofield and Gareth Ellis at the Stanstead Arms in Apperley Bridge.

Robinson brings out pub origami book

Origami expert Nick Robinson, famous for making a 10ft paper penis on the banks of the Thames, has released a pub origami book. Drinkers will be able to construct an emergency beer glass, beer bombs and peanut catapults with paper.
