"No I don't support what he is doing at all. It is stupid and he has not thought out the consequences of what he is doing. He is putting lives and livelihoods at risk by saying people should get in a boat and row across the channel. It is unbelievably stupid. In nautical terms, to row across the English channel is like crossing the M1. If someone gets in the way of a tanker they take five to seven miles to stop. It is naïve and stupid."

"I think he has some good ideas but it will be really difficult to replicate the original Live Aid. Some of the stuff, like rowing across the channel is a bit silly. Maybe he was just having a bit of a joke. But generally his ideas are very good and making poverty history is important. But as you write off these debts you have African Kings spending more money, so it makes you wonder if it will work."

"I wish him the best of luck. It sounds like a good event. What he is trying to do with these stunts is raise publicity and awareness so the best of luck to him. The last Live Aid was really big but now you have Children in Need and Comic Relief that are on all the time so it will be difficult to get the public interest now. Ending world poverty though, can only be a good thing."

"It is a fairly good idea. Anything that highlights the plight of people worse off than ourselves is good. The concert should be great but is not the same as Live Aid. It will help to raise awareness. And the world has got the necessary resources to overcome debt. Some of it is a little bit over the top and I don't think he will get his 1m people in Edinburgh but I agree with the main thrust of it all."
