The cliff-top Grange Hall Hotel on the Isle of Wight is on the market with Christie & Co.

The property, a Victorian manor house, overlooks San-down Bay on the south east coast of the island and was originally built as a family residence around 1875 for Samuel Palmer of Huntley & Palmer Biscuits. Since then it has been a girls' school before becoming a hotel around 1939.

The property retains many of its original period features, including marble fireplaces, original staircase, cornices, feature doors and door frames, and has 28 en-suite bedrooms, eight of which have sea views, a lounge/bar and breakfast room.

There is a large car park to the hotel, with terraced buildings adjacent to the cliff path.

James Finn from Christie & Co's Winchester office said the hotel operates for approximately 10 months of the year, from March to December, and currently trades as a bed and breakfast with a three-Diamond rating. The present owner has had the business for five years and has decided to sell up due to other interests. Offers in the region of £895,000 are sought for the freehold.

l Christie & Co has recently sold a four-star 18-bedroom country hotel on the Isle of Wight.

Swainston Manor is set in 22 acres of unspoilt countryside in the rural settlement of Cal-bourne and boasts a fascinating history, with parts of the main house dating back as early as the 8th century.

Swainston Manor was sold for an undisclosed sum from an asking price of £1.1m for the freehold interest.
