"In terms of duty and tax, all parties tend to hit the brewing and pub trade, so I do not believe there is much to choose between any of them on that score. Normally I do not have a problem deciding which party to support but this time it's a bit different. The Government is hitting the trade with threats of all sorts of enforcement legislation. At the end of the day I might stick to the devil I know, but it's a close call.

"We have a major problem with juvenile nuisance on the streets around here and it needs sorting out, so I would support Labour as the best party to do it. We have teenagers hanging around outside the pub at night and customers have to run a gauntlet of abuse and hostility when they arrive and leave. I support greater use of anti-social behaviour orders (Asbos) as the best way of sorting the problem."

Aaron Mellor

Stereo Bar Newcastle-upon-Tyne

"I am not into politics at all, so I really do not have any views on which party is best for the pub industry. I am totally involved with my music here so what goes on in the political world is of no interest for me. I am completely apolitical and will not even be voting on 5 May."

Mark Owens

The Moorcock Garsdale Head Cumbria

"We have our own brewery now, which supplies the pub and other outlets, so the new beer duty concessions for small brewers is obviously a big bonus for us. There is talk about the Government extending the sliding duty scale so that may be good news for us. There has been a lot of comment about the new Licensing Act, but in a remote pub like this, I do not think that there will be that many problems."
