A councillor has used the Freedom of Information Act to discover the 10 bars in his part of London that have prompted the highest number of Met Police call-outs for public order offences.
A Yates outlet topped the list, with a JD Wetherspoon and Spirit pub also in the top six. The 2004 figures were released after a request from Tooting councillor Stuart King. With 195 police call-outs, the top 10 pubs accounted for a third of the total number of calls.
Councillor King said: "I welcome the fact that the vast majority of these calls are actually placed by the door staff and managers of the pubs themselves. Where there have been problems, the police have responded effectively. I am sure residents living near these pubs would agree they need to improve their record."
Mark Jones, chief executive of Yates, said: "There's a manager of a pub in Scotland being prosecuted currently for not calling the police when trouble broke out. This is probably the busiest pub in Clapham. We have, however, recently changed the manager."
The top 10 pubs are:
1 Yates: Lavender Hill, Clapham Junction (39 calls)
2 The Railway: Upper Richmond Road, Putney (30 calls)
3 The Railway Bell, Mitcham Road, Putney (30 calls)
4 JJ Moons, Tooting High Street, Tooting (18 calls)
5 The Asparagus, Falcon Road, Battersea (16 calls)
6 The Mitre, Mitcham Road, Tooting (16 calls)
7 The Rose & Crown, Wandsworth High Street, Wandsworth (15 calls)
8 The King's Head, Roehampton High Street, Putney (14 calls)
9 The Gordon Bennett, Mitcham Road, Tooting (13 calls)
10 Ye Olde Spotted Horse, Putney High Street (13 calls)
