The National Organisation for Imported Beers NoFibs has commissioned CGA-Centro to carry out research into consumer perceptions of genuine imported beers. It is hoped the findings will provide the bedrock on which the organisation will base its activities. "We shall, for the first time, be able to define this new sector to the trade," said chairman John Harley. "We shall be able to show retailers how they can introduce more consumers to genuine imported beers and how we can enhance consumer knowledge of imported beers." CGA-Centro will report back at the end of June.

Foot-and-mouth recovery still helps pubs
Rural pubs could be offered cash and business advice thanks to a new Government scheme to revive eight areas of the country that are still suffering the effects of the 2001 foot-and-mouth crisis. A grant has already been given to the Stipper Stones pub in Bishop's Castle for broadband internet access as part of the Pathfinder Project. The Department for Environment & Rural Affairs has already contributed £100,000 to each area.
Stagg's back in action after floods
The Stagg Inn in Crosby on Eden, Cumbria reopened over the Easter weekend just three months after being devastated by floods. Jennings Brothers helped licensee Peter Milne complete the £70,000 refurbishment by agreeing a rent amnesty while the pub was closed. The pub reopened with a new no-smoking policy in force.
Carlsberg denies Liverpool deal is off
Carlsberg UK has denied that its 12-season, £6m-a-year sponsorship deal with Liverpool Football Club will definitely come to an end. The Morning Advertiser first heard rumours, which resurfaced at the Easter weekend, that the relationship had come to an end three weeks ago. However, a spokeswoman for Carlsberg said: "We are still in discussions with Liverpool so any stories are just speculation at the moment."
