Three years' jail for pub stabbing
Pub customer Matthew Giles, 21, was jailed for three years last week for an attack, in which a barman was stabbed in the stomach, a manager was knifed in the shoulder and a customer needed 18 stitches after his ear was slashed.
Giles admitted two charges of wounding with intent and one charge of common assault for the attack at the Red Barn in Lingfield, Surrey, in January 2004.
The court heard that Giles, who was sitting in the pub with six friends and a young child, threatened staff because of a problem with his food.
Giles threatened to glass a waitress and began punching manager Christopher Williams when he was told to leave.
At that point a brawl erupted and the attacks took place.
Maria Karaiskos, prosecuting, said Giles was seen leaving in a car driven by a woman. Karaiskos said: "He licked the blood off his hand with his tongue and said: I have done two of them one in the chest and one up there'."
Barbara Down, mitigating, said Giles, who lived at the Hare and Hounds Kennels in Lingfield at the time of the offence, was left devastated after his brother was killed in a road accident in 2002.

Robert Altham, mitigating, said Elliott who has several previous convictions, some involving violence has problems with alcohol that is trying to resolve.
