Former hotelier Andrew Parke has taken the helm of the unusual Bridge Inn and Restaurant in Acle, Norfolk.

Parke purchased the Bridge's leasehold interest for an undisclosed amount off an asking price of £325,000.

Simon Jackaman, of Christie & Co's Ipswich office, said: "I am sure that Andrew, with his wealth of knowledge and experience in the food and hospitality trade, will further enhance the reputation of the inn."

He added that the vendor, Richard Wooll, had built up the trade since purchasing it in 2001, but ill health forced the sale.

"Under Richard, it has also undergone extensive refurbishment both internally and externally."

The 150-cover inn is near the A1064 on the Norfolk Broads.

In addition to passing trade, further custom is drawn from the River Bure, which runs right next to the rear of the beer garden, which has seating for 150. There is also a children's play area and an amusement arcade.

Another bonus is that along the river there are 25 moorings enabling boats to berth there overnight.

The internal trade area has a large lounge bar, family room and a rotunda-shaped dining room designed to replicate an original lime kiln that once stood on this site.
