I run a community centre bar which I pay rent to an association for.I run it on their rules as a members only bar..Although the business is mine and I make all the decisions the one thing I dont understand is the AWP LICENCE..
I Have 2 AWP JACKPOT MACHINES £250 as oppose to £50 PUB AWP MACHINES..The police have informed me that the association must take full responsibility for the machines, tax ,emptying etc..
The profits must be for the benefit of members and NOT for any sole business...
Although I understand this and my rent is paid for by the association ,by means of the awp profit...there is still a few thousand pounds knocking about in the associtions bank account which is of no benefit to anyone..The association is always crying povety whilst I have to stump up for all kinds of bills, and buy fridges, glassware tvs, dartboards etc...My argument is that the bills I pay are mostly for the members of the association of which I think that if I had the machine take ,I would buy the bits and peices for them which again revolves as "for the benefit of the members"..
Now I know this comes across a little greedy, but I have to sell my beer at club prices ie,,,fosters £1.85,greene king IPA £1.65.......Im not wetherspoons,im an independent operater trying to make a living from members.....
Now there are 7 members clubs within 3 miles of me .they all have £250 machines..I know of 2 of the managers have the whole take of these machines...So whats the difference between a members club run by volanteers as in a community centre, and a members club run by an individual selling beer at club prices as in my local snooker club but still having a free run on the fruit machines.....
help please. robert madigan
